Classic British beans on wholemeal toast — simple, warming and ready in minutes. One-serving recipe, scales linearly.
Toast the 2 slices of wholemeal bread until golden to your liking (use a toaster or under a grill).
Pour the 200 g baked beans into a small saucepan. Warm gently over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until piping hot.
Spread 5 g butter evenly over the hot toast so it melts.
Spoon the hot beans over the buttered toast, dividing evenly across both slices. Finish with a pinch of black pepper.
Serve immediately while hot.
Best eaten immediately. If the baked beans tin has been opened, store any leftover beans in an airtight container in the fridge and use within 2 days.
Eat immediately for best texture. Leftover warmed beans (not on toast) can be refrigerated up to 2 days in a sealed container; reheat until piping hot.
